Gorseinon is a town in the City and County of Swansea, Wales, near the Loughor estuary. It was a small town up to the end of the 19th century when it developed due to the mining of coal and tinplate. It is located to the north-west of Swansea City Centre, around 6 miles north-west from the center of town.

It is estimated that the population in the Gorseinon town council area as of the 2011 Census was 8,693. However, the ONS defines an area known as Gorseinon Urban Area. Gorseinon Urban Area comprises all the constructed area that is located in and around Gorseinon. 

The name Gorseinon refers to “Einon’s marsh”, from the softly mutated version of Welsh cors “marsh” and the personal name of a male named Einon Einon, the meaning of which is not known. Einon is the Southern variant for the word Einion. The first soft mutation is sporadic and would be expected to be Corseinon.

Many chapels and churches were constructed during the 1880s. In the beginning, there included Holy Trinity Church, built-in 1882, and later expanded in 1884. Seion Baptist Church began its ministry in 1886. It was built on the banks of a river near the lower end of Gorseinon and then in 1902, a new Seion was constructed within the High Street. The original Seion was acquired by English Methodists however, it was later renamed the Moose Hall.
